RESILIENCE ACTION

Adapting to climate, building secure futures, and healing ecosystems

Across the Amazon, forest communities face mounting pressures from climate change and economic instability, which threaten both ecosystems and livelihoods. These challenges are intensified by volatile markets, drought, and soil depletion, making it increasingly difficult for Indigenous and rural communities to sustain their way of life.

At Aktion Amazonas, we work hand in hand with Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities to strengthen socio-ecological resilience through climate adaptation, food and water security, and forest restoration  creating thriving, self-sustaining landscapes for future generations.

We support communities in strengthening livelihood security through sustainable income-generating activities such as wild fruits, honey, coffee, cacao, bananas, and small-scale fisheries. Diversifying local economies reduces dependence on extractive industries and enhances both climate and market resilience, enabling families to earn income while conserving their forests.

We support communities in restoring and protecting local water systems by safeguarding springs, streams, and wetlands through traditional and modern harvesting practices. These methods secure clean water during dry periods, improve flow and quality, and sustain both people and ecosystems in a changing climate.

We support communities in restoring degraded forests by collecting native seeds, cultivating saplings in local nurseries, and leading reforestation efforts. Rooted in traditional knowledge and adapted to local ecosystems, these practices restore biodiversity, improve soils, and increase carbon storage.

Together, these initiatives strengthen the foundations of resilient forest communities where people and nature thrive side by side, adapting to climate change while healing the ecosystems that sustain life.
