Across tropical forest landscapes, deforestation, wildfires, and land degradation are leaving ecosystems fragmented and reducing their ability to recover naturally. Restoring degraded areas is essential to rebuild ecological functions, reconnect habitats, and support biodiversity over time.
At Aktion Amazonas, we work with Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities to restore degraded forest landscapes through assisted natural regeneration and active restoration - using native seeds, tree planting, and locally adapted approaches to accelerate ecosystem recovery and strengthen ecological connectivity.
We accelerate regeneration through direct seeding techniques such as seed balls, introducing native seeds across degraded areas to promote vegetation recovery at larger scale.
We restore degraded areas by planting native trees, establishing locally adapted species where active intervention is needed to rebuild forest structure and habitat.
We support natural regeneration by creating perches and habitat features that attract seed-dispersing birds into degraded areas, helping native seeds spread and new vegetation establish naturally.
