PROTECTION ACTION
Protecting biodiversity, forests, and territories
Across the Amazon, vast areas of forest are degraded by extractive industries, land conversion, and uncontrolled fires, while poaching and wildlife trafficking further threaten the region’s rich biodiversity and ecological balance. As ecosystems collapse, water sources dry up, wildlife disappears, and traditional knowledge is lost, while the forests themselves lose their ability to regulate the climate.

At Aktion Amazonas, we work with Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities, to protect forests and territories through community brigades, territorial defense and species protection - combining traditional knowledge with action on the ground.

We support communities in preventing and managing wildfires through local brigades, risk mapping, and awareness campaigns. By strengthening early warning systems and community preparedness, these efforts reduce fire risks, protect biodiversity, and safeguard lives and forests.

We support Indigenous and rural communities in defending their territories by organizing patrols to monitor and document illegal logging, land grabbing, and other environmental crimes. By gathering evidence, filing complaints, and coordinating with authorities, these community-led efforts strengthen accountability and protect the integrity of ancestral lands.

We support communities in preventing poaching and wildlife trafficking through training, monitoring, and community vigilance. Using drones, GPS, and camera traps, they help safeguard endangered species - from jaguars and river otters to rare birds and plants - while maintaining ecological balance.
