RESILIENCE ACTION
Building the socio-ecological foundation
Across tropical forest landscapes, communities and ecosystems are increasingly exposed to climate change, environmental degradation, and economic shocks. These pressures weaken both livelihoods and the ecological systems they depend on.

At Aktion Amazonas, we work alongside Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities to strengthen the long-term resilience of socio-ecological systems - supporting adaptive resource management, diversified livelihoods, and local governance systems that enable communities and ecosystems to withstand and adapt to change.

We support ecosystem-based income models that diversify local economies while maintaining ecological integrity.
Through participatory mapping and community-led planning, we develop sustainable livelihoods such as wild fruits, honey, agroforestry, and fisheries -strengthened by market access, quality improvement, and organisational capacity.

We strengthen water security by combining locally adapted infrastructure with participatory mapping of water sources and contamination risks.
Community water committees lead governance, maintenance, and protection efforts, supported by water quality monitoring and measures to reduce pollution in vulnerable areas.

We strengthen wildfire preparedness through participatory risk mapping, early warning systems, and community fire brigades trained in prevention, response, and recovery. Practical measures such as firebreaks and local water reservoirs reduce vulnerability and enhance landscape resilience under increasing climate pressure.
Together, these initiatives strengthen the foundations of resilient forest communities where people and nature thrive side by side, adapting to climate change while healing the ecosystems that sustain life.
