PROTECTION ACTION
Safeguarding ecosystems, territories, and rights
Across tropical forest landscapes, ecosystems and territories are increasingly threatened by extractive activities, land grabbing, and encroachment into Indigenous and community lands. These pressures drive deforestation, undermine land rights, and erode the integrity of entire ecosystems.
At Aktion Amazonas, we work with Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities to detect, document, and respond to these threats through community-based monitoring, spatial technologies, and participatory mapping - strengthening territorial protection, supporting enforcement, and preventing irreversible ecological damage.

We support Indigenous Peoples and local communities in establishing surveillance teams that monitor their territories using GPS, drones, and standardised tools.
Patrols detect and document environmental crimes such as illegal logging, mining, and land encroachment - generating verifiable evidence and enabling authorities to act.

We apply satellite monitoring, drone surveys, and GIS analysis to verify field observations and generate credible evidence.
This enables the detection of deforestation, mining, and encroachment, and supports enforcement by providing authorities with actionable data for legal and institutional response.

We support communities in mapping their territories, land use, and cultural sites using participatory and digital tools.
These maps strengthen land rights, prevent encroachment, and provide a foundation for long-term territorial governance and protection.
